Amanda Serrano has demanded a trilogy fight with Katie Taylor following her controversial loss. Serrano came up short in a unanimous decision defeat, losing for the second time against Taylor. The fight was watched by approximately 50 million people across the globe, making it the most viewed women’s professional boxing fight in history. The decision was difficult to take, especially since Serrano felt she had done more than enough to win. The CompuBox numbers showed she landed 107 punches more than Taylor. But the turning point of the fight was a big cut over Serrano’s right eye in round four after an accidental clash of heads.

It continued to bleed. Taylor consistently targeted the cut. There were suggestions Taylor is a dirty fighter due to her tendency to get involved in headbutts. Taylor was subsequently docked a point for that. But it was still not enough to prevent her from winning on the scorecards, resulting in huge boos from the audience. Taylor addressed the controversy by saying she had faced Serrano twice and beat her on both occasions via the scorecards. Serrano’s camp was not happy with the officiating, setting the narrative for a third fight.

Serrano Reacts

“There was a lot of headbutting going on and a lot of holding going on. But listen, I’m just happy that we were able to perform on this platform and millions of people saw what they saw and I believe I won the fight which means we have to go for the third fight. I’m 100% interested (in a third fight), she said she is. The only way I feel like it will be fair is if we go under the men’s rules which is three minutes and 12 rounds, and she agreed to it so let’s see if she’ll take the fight,” Serrano said

The fight reportedly earned Taylor close to $6 million, while Serrano walked away with nearly $10 million. It shows there is a demand to see those two fight. But at the age of 38, Taylor will have to consider whether she wants to get into another war again. Her only defeat in her career came against Chantelle Cameron. Taylor avenged the loss by beating Cameron in the rematch to become undisputed at 140 pounds. Taylor is not in a desperate position to face Serrano again. However, if she wants to earn the biggest purses in the sport, then the Serrano fight is the bout which offers that.

Serrano’s Cut

Serrano also touched on her cut, saying that it has been healing well. She showed a lot of determination by going on the fight. There was a possibility the fight could have been stopped. The ringside doctor did inspect the cut. However, she was allowed to continue taking the fight to the distance in a thrilling encounter. And if a trilogy fight can muster up anywhere close to what fans saw on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card, then they will be in for a treat.
