Bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili takes on corner role for Aljamain Sterling in UFC 310 featherweight clash.
At UFC 310, Merab Dvalishvili was by Aljamain Sterling’s side, supporting him during his featherweight showdown against the undefeated Movsar Evloev.
After three intense rounds, Sterling didn’t get the victory, with the judges awarding a unanimous decision to Evloev, marking Sterling’s first loss at 145 pounds.
Fans were frustrated with the result, with many believing Sterling had done enough in the first two rounds to secure the win, sparking debates over the decision.
Merab Dvalishvili Gets Into a Scuffle With Fan Post-UFC 310
After Aljamain Sterling’s fight with Movsar Evloev, something happened that caught everyone’s attention. While heading backstage, UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili had a tense moment with a fan.
Merab was in Las Vegas not only to support Sterling but also because his title defense against Umar Nurmagomedov was officially set for UFC 311. He and Nurmagomedov recently took part in a press conference alongside other fighters.
Merab is known for his fiery reactions when fans give him trouble. Back in September, before his fight with Sean O’Malley, he was involved in a viral incident at a grappling event.
As Merab and Sterling were walking backstage after the fight, a fan near the barrier started heckling the team. Merab reacted by pushing against the barrier, and security quickly stepped in as he appeared to swing at the fan.
While security was holding Merab back, another person from Sterling’s team, Dennis Buzukja, who also fights in the UFC, started to argue with the fan. They both began throwing punches at each other right by the barrier! It all got really crazy, and security had to jump in to stop the fight from getting worse.
After the fight, Dana White didn’t really criticize Merab for his actions. He understood that Merab was emotional after his friend’s loss. Merab also appeared a bit frustrated during the press conference with Nurmagomedov, which made people curious about his mindset going into the fight. Since both Merab and Nurmagomedov were at UFC 310, the UFC team made sure they were seated far apart to avoid any further issues.
“He’s my mini-[Sean] Strickland. Without the mouth,” White said at the UFC 310 post-fight press conference. “What do you do? Let him buy the pay-per-view, I guess. I don’t know. You can’t keep fighting with f*cking fans. You can do it. It’s going to cost you a lot of money. I don’t know. “I say it all the time. We’re in the f*cking fight business. This happens. We’ve got to deal with it.”
Dana White knows that Merab seems to always get into little fights with fans. He even said that Merab is a bit like Sean Strickland, who also gets a lot of attention for the things he says. But while Strickland doesn’t usually fight fans, he’s famous for saying a lot of bold things that make people talk.
“Listen, Merab’s that guy. He’s that guy,” White esaid. “This isn’t his first altercation. I don’t know if you guys noticed at the press conference yesterday, too, to the right somebody yelled something and he’s in the middle of a conversation and he’s trying to see who said that. Like what, you’re going to run over there and you’re going to fight this guy, too? It’s just the way he is. He’s build that way. “I don’t know if you saw, he wasn’t sitting in the regular fighter section. I had to move him over, had to move the other two guys over at our table. We try to diffuse this stuff before it happens and tonight we had a good game plan. I didn’t think he’d get into a fight walking out with Aljamain.”
Dana White says that’s just how fighters are and Merab Dvalishvili is just like that too.
“Merab’s fighting people in the f*cking stands. Merab would get in a fight in the middle of the fighter section,” White said. “That’s why we moved him over to the left. So I wouldn’t say that any of these guys are afraid of anybody or any fight. But fighters are a paranoid bunch. “There’s always some conspiracy against them. Whether it’s us or other people. We make fights people want to see. They win or lose the fights on their own but they are conspiracy theorists. They always think that somebody is against them and maybe that’s what they need to do to have that mental thing to go out and do what they do.”
