Selena Gomez recently opened up on a very personal battle she had with her aspirations to become a mother and how her previous medical problems have affected her now and in the future.
Selena Gomez has revealed, shockingly, that she is unable to have her own children because of health issues that could jeopardize the lives of the unborn kid and herself.
In a recent interview, the 32-year-old singer and actress talked candidly about accepting this fact and the difficult process she went through to consider alternate routes to parenthood, including adoption or surrogacy.
Gomez’s life has always revolved around her family, and she has never concealed her wish to start a family. She has frequently been in the midst of the pleasures and challenges of parenthood as the godmother to her cousin Priscilla’s two kids.
But these instances have also highlighted the singer’s difficulties. Gomez admitted candidly to Vanity Fair, saying, “I have never acknowledged this, but I am sadly unable to bear my own children. Numerous health problems I have could endanger both my life and the lives of the unborn child. I had to grieve for a while about it.”
Despite being unhappy, she appeared content. The singer said, “It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it.” “I assumed everything would transpire as it does for each individual. But with that, I’m in a far better place. The fact that there are amazing people ready to adopt or surrogate is a godsend in my opinion, as these are two extremely exciting options for me.”
In addition, the singer is eager to become a mother in any capacity. “In the end, it doesn’t really matter to me. I’ll own it. “It will be mine,” she continued.
Gomez has been very transparent over the years about her health issues, which make having children very dangerous for her. She went through chemotherapy after being diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease, in 2015. Because of the seriousness of her condition at the time, she decided to take a hiatus from her job.
Gomez revealed the mental health issues—anxiety, panic attacks, and depression—caused by her lupus a year later. She explained to People that these had a unique set of “challenges.”
The singer decided to put her health first and took a break from her career as a result. Still, the battles went on. Gomez’s life was spared with a kidney transplant in 2017. Francia Raisa, one of her close friends, kindly gave the kidney.
She expressed her gratitude to Raisa and her medical staff in public for their assistance at one of the most trying times in her life. “I am extremely fortunate. She posted on Instagram, “Sis, I love you so much.
Regretfully, her issues didn’t stop there. In 2020, Gomez revealed that she suffered from bipolar disorder. In an Instagram chat with Miley Cyrus, she disclosed that being aware of her illness made her feel less afraid.
Gomez stated, “It doesn’t scare me once I know it,” and that she was able to take charge of her story after knowing more about her mental health.
